Zimbabwe National Lockdown Extended Indefinitely

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended a nationwide lockdown indefinitely, in an effort to control the spread of coronavirus, though the restrictions will be reviewed every two weeks as the country needs to ease out of the lockdown in a strategic and gradual manner.

Informal street markets will remain shut while the government consults health specialists on how to reopen them safely. Businesses, such as manufacturers, supermarkets and banks, which have been allowed to continue operating, will see their operating hours extended from a maximum of six hours to more than eight hours between 8am and 4:30pm.

Zimbabwe's borders will remain closed and all returning residents repatriating to the country will have to undergo a 21-day supervised quarantine period.

Education facilities will open but only for students writing final examinations this year.
