We are the custodians of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, sitting in the heart of the largest conservation area on earth. We know the value of our environment and our people, and we strive to protect and empower them.
The area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, protected by legislation on both the Zimbabwe and Zambia side. As a destination we have signed a Charter of Values that puts sustainability at our core, we have conservation, community and sustainability initiatives, and we have many award-winning programs and operators.

UNESCO
The Victoria Falls area was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status in 1989, providing legal protection and preservation. It is protected under the National Heritage Conservation Act (1998) and the Zambia Wildlife Act on the Zambia part and the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Act Cap. 20. 14 of 2008 (revised) on the Zimbabwean side. The area has a well-defined and buffered boundary which requires clear demarcation. It has a Joint Integrated Management Plan approved by the State Parties in November 2007 and is being implemented in a participatory manner.
The property requires continued maintenance and updating of its management plan, supported by adequate staffing and provision of financial resources. Read more

Our Values
As a destination we signed a Charter of Values in 2022. These apply to all who call Victoria Falls home, whether for a few minutes or their entire lifetime. These principles guide us to protect, preserve and promote this iconic destination.
As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, these are the seven promises that we make:
Through the eyes of our locals
See Victoria Falls through the eyes of local artist Stanley Sabanda
Stanley Sibanda is a local Zimbabwean artist who grew up near the falls. He created a piece in oils to show what these values mean to him.
Limited edition prints of 'We Watch you as you Come' are available in our shop

Pristine Victoria Falls
The Pristine Victoria Falls Society (PVFS) is a community-based movement set up in October 2021 to make Victoria Falls the cleanest, greenest City in Africa. Members sign a Pledge to keep their area clear of rubbish at all times by providing supplies, staff or transport, lend their voices to lobbying civic entities, donors and researchers into assisting the Society’s goals, and encourage others to join up. Besides a litter-free city, the Society wishes to work with other stakeholders to upgrade the rubbish collection infrastructure, introduce and enforce laws targeting littering, upgrade and manage dumping sites, promote and develop recycling practices, and reduce reliance on single-use plastics in the community.

Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust
The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust is a non-profit organization setup in 2008. Its mission is to advance and promote environmental conservation in Southern Africa through hands-on wildlife research; management of a wildlife veterinary diagnostic laboratory and rehabilitation facility; the education and empowerment of local peoples in the sustainable utilization of indigenous resources through active involvement in conservation training and community outreach programs. Based in Victoria Falls the Trust is dedicated to protecting the area’s unique indigenous fauna and flora, in collaboration with appropriate Authorities, local communities and other stakeholders. Projects include rehabilitation of injured or orphaned wildlife, anti poaching and wildlife veterinary assistance, research and monitoring, community outreach based projects, and a children's conservation education program.

Our performance
We monitor and report our sustainability performance through key tourism impact indicators. These indicators include local jobs, renewable energy use and corporate social responsibility programs.
This data is collected through a quarterly survey of tourism industry operators. The survey is voluntary and We Are Victoria Falls would like to thank our local champions who diligently contribute. Wider data sets on economic or market indicators are available under Destination Data.
We are a small destination with limited resources and we would like to report on more indicators in future. See our results
