President Emmerson Mnangagwa grants city status for Victoria Falls
An official ceremony was held in Victoria Falls today as President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially granted city status to the tourism hub of Zimbabwe.
Present at the event were the Local Government Minister July Moyo, Matabeleland North Minister of State Richard Moyo, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda and Victoria Falls mayor Somvelo Dlamini.
The newly proclaimed city status ties in with the designation of Victoria Falls as a Special Economic Zone, and the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX), all of which are anticipated to unlock a diverse array of opportunities for the growth of tourism, and are expected to enhance investment interest into the region.
It is hoped that the city status will also assist in boosting tourist arrivals as the country drives forward with recovery strategies following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
