The shipment of a much awaited, latest model, mobile digital X-ray machine generously donated by the Oak Foundation through the Jafuta Foundation arrived in Victoria Falls and an official handover ceremony took place whereby Martin Mhlanga, Board Chairperson of Zimbabwe Aids Project Clinic in Mkhosana, which is currently equipped as Covid Isolation Centre 1, received the donation today from Gail van Jaarsveldt from Jafuta Foundation, alongside Dr Fungayi Musinami-Mvura.

This important piece of medical equipment will be of great value to the Victoria Falls community during and post Covid-19.

The taskforce also received a large consignment of PPE supplies for medical teams, humidifiers for the oxygen therapy and finger pulse oximeters.

As a community we are so grateful to the Oak Foundation for making it possible for us to procure critical diagnostic equipment for the Victoria Falls Covid Isolation Centres. These two sought-after pieces of medical equipment were top of our doctors’ wish-list and thanks to the Oak Foundation and Jafuta Foundation, they were able to secure them from Germany and have them safely delivered to Victoria Falls. The equipment is a game changer in the ability to quickly and accurately diagnose and make appropriate interventions for Covid-19 patients and for the wider Hwange community in the long run.

The mobile, digital X-Ray machine can be wheeled to a patient’s bed in high care or ICU, and the X-rays can be speedily processed and analysed from anywhere in the world as well as safely saved on disk.

Post-Covid, this mobile unit will be used to reach rural clinics to diagnose TB, monitor HIV patients, identify broken bones and many other issues. Similarly, the iStat blood gas analyser allows doctors to make critical decisions by testing on the spot using a single, portable, lab quality instrument.
