Sports Tourism Experience to take place in Victoria Falls later this month
Ecotourism Africa Trust, founded in 2018, has created a new venture Sports Tourism Inc focused on increasing domestic tourism through sport across the country. With the intention to create regular and annual events, Sports Tourism Inc in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, and with special approval from the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, the Sports and Recreation Commission, The Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, and Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, will for the first time in history be holding a weekend dedicated to Sports Tourism experiences in Victoria Falls between the 24th and 26th September 2021.
Prior to the onset of the covid pandemic, sports tourism was becoming one of the fastest growing sectors of the global travel industry. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Sport and Tourism are two driving forces for the promotion and sustainable economic development of tourism destinations, and together can actively contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the UNDP 2030 Goals.
The Sports Tourism Experience taking place in Victoria Falls later this month (24- 26 September) will include Golf, Tennis, Mountain Biking, Marathon and Aerobic Events, all of which will be hosted at various venues with the adequate protocols in place to ensure COVID regulations are being observed and implemented.
"Our aim with developing the Sports Tourism Experience is to help revive domestic tourism, and support the continued collaborative efforts of the government and the private sector to spur on the recovery of tourism," says Malvin Kanjere, PR and Marketing Director of Ecotourism Africa and Sports Tourism Inc. "We have been fortunate to collaborate with a diverse array of partners and sponsors to make this happen because we are all focused on the same goal: enhancing domestic tourism and supporting the recovery efforts".
Ecotourism Africa advocates for responsible tourism, as well as supporting projects which provide better livelihoods marginalised persons. In October 2020, partnering with Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, EcoTourism Africa organised the "Chivero Rhino Run" which attracted more than 500 athletes to participate in support of rhino conservation.
