KAZA Brochure released to promote regional recovery

A tailor-made destination brochure of the world's largest Transfrontier Conservation Area was released this week in an effort to assist and promote the recovery of tourism to the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA).

 

Standing at approximately 520,000km², the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) occupies part of the Okavango and Zambezi river basins, encompassing areas within the borders of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. KAZA includes 36 formally proclaimed national parks, a host of game reserves, forest reserves, game management areas, communal lands, and conservation and tourism concession areas designated for the sustainable use of natural resources.

 

It is home to renowned tourism destinations including Chobe National Park, Hwange National Park, Kafue National Park, the Makgadikgadi Pans, the Okavango Delta, and the Victoria Falls. The TFCA caters to large-scale migrations of megafauna and contributes to the conservation of threatened species such as the African wild dog, lion, and cheetah. In addition, KAZA hosts the largest contiguous population of African elephant on the continent, making the African elephant the flagship species of the TFCA. Vitally important to the well being of the diverse array of flora and fauna within KAZA, is maintaining and conserving the integrity of the landscapes and the key wildlife corridors within the region.

 

Victoria Falls is ideally positioned as the gateway and tourism hub for access to the KAZA TFCA, and almost every safari in the region includes a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the "Smoke that Thunders". With the resumption of flights to Victoria Falls already in place, and the land borders open, the opportunity for travellers to explore destinations within the KAZA TFCA, is now once again possible.

 

Boundless Southern Africa supported the KAZA secretariat and five National Tourism Organisations in the production of the tailored Brochure for KAZA, and are partners of the We Are Victoria Falls #20For20 Small Tourism Enterprises competition.
