Victoria Falls has recorded over 415 species of birds. We are also home to a number of specialist birding guides who have decades of experience, passion and outstanding knowledge. Birding safaris can be tailored to suit your requirements and can be done by vehicle, by boat or on foot depending on the type of species that is sought.

Every lunchtime a professional guide takes visitors to a viewing platform at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge to see wild vultures feeding. Guests will learn more about the plight of vultures across Africa and the crucial role they play in our ecosystem. A small donation is given to the Trust for each lunch that is purchased at the Vulture Culture restaurant, which helps to support the vulture conservation research. The experience is a collaboration between the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust and local tour operator Africa Albida Tourism.

The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust (VFWT) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve wildlife and natural ecosystems in the Victoria Falls region of Zimbabwe. Adventure Jetboat

Traverse the rapids right under the Victoria Falls and into the ‘boiling pot’ on a 465 horsepower, custom-made Adventure Jetboat. The Jetboat offers a different perspective on the world’s largest curtain of falling water, as you embark on a fast-paced thrill ride, up and down the rapids through the Batoka Gorge. Purpose built for the Zambezi River, and with specially trained boat captains, the Jetboat is an experience of a lifetime here in the heart of adventure.

With the incredible backdrop of Victoria Falls and the views of the mighty Zambezi river below you, the Bungee jump here is known as one of the most scenic in the world. The Bungee operates off Victoria Falls Bridge midway between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Plunge is an estimated 111m with a 5 second freefall. Jumps can be conducted as solo or tandem. Passports are required to access the bridge and you will need to pass through immigration to inform them that you are doing the jump. This does not entitle you to enter the country on the other side and a visa is not required.

Set high up on the spectacular cliffs of the Batoka Gorge, between the Victoria Falls Hotel and the Victoria Falls Bridge, the “Lookout Cafe” is also the site for a number of high wire activities including The Gorge Swing. Thought to be one of the most thrilling adrenalin activities in the destination, Gorge Swingers leap off the edge of a platform into the gorge chasm below, freefalling for 70m and swinging 95m directly over the rapids. Participants are securely strapped into a harness attached to a wire suspended across the gorge. Solo and tandem swing is available.

Take a running jump into thin air over the chasm of the Batoka Gorge, soaring horizontally as if flying over the roaring waters of the Zambezi below. Participants are clipped into a secure harness attached to a pulley which glides along a horizontal cable across the Gorge. At this point the Gorge is 200m wide and 120m deep. This activity can be done single or tandem.

Exhilarating and fast, the zipline is one of Southern Africa’s longest, providing breathtaking views of the gorge and Zambezi waters below. Participants are securely harnessed to a pulley on a cable across the gorge, allowing for a hurtling acceleration speed of 106km per hour across 425m of gorge. The zipline can be done single or tandem.

Fun and adventurous, the slide begins on a platform on the edge of the Zambian side of the Batoka Gorge and traverses along a cable to the bridge, allowing participants to slide across an estimated 300 meters over the rapids and affording incomparable views of the historic bridge and falls. You will need to bring your passport with you to get access to the bridge and please note this does not allow you to cross into Zambia.

If you are looking for a heart-stopping experience, then you cannot beat swimming at the very top of the falls. The Devil’s Pool is a natural pool located at the top of Victoria Falls in Zambia with a rock ledge on the lip of the actual Falls. Only accessible during the dry season when the water level is low enough for visitors to swim in the pool safely, the Devils Pool and ‘Livingstone island tour’ are available five times a day. The operation is run with safety as the highest priority. Departures take place from the Dry Manzi jetty launch site, with a five minute boat ride to navigate the rocky channels in the approach to Victoria Falls. Once on Livingstone island, enjoy a brief tour before entering the rock pool to swim. Refreshments are usually served back on the island. Don’t miss this unique photo opportunity!

Whilst running in Victoria Falls is possible, it should be done with caution to avoid any contact with wildlife. If you do decide to run or walk it is recommended to inform your accommodation provider, do so during daylight hours, stay on main tar roads frequented by vehicles, and maintain awareness of your surroundings at all times. It is not recommended to run off-road and with earphones.

Gorge Hikes

Hike the trail at the top of the Gorge, and take a refreshment with local herdsmen. This is a half-day experience that will start with a scenic drive through the countryside to the top of the Gorge, at rapid number 23. After the safety briefing, you will enjoy the hour long walk at the top of the gorge, along the river to rapid 25. The hike continues to a beautiful and authentically decorated Ndebele homestead to share a light refreshment with your graceful hosts. The hike includes navigating some steep slopes and a basic level of fitness is required.

The Zambezi River is the fourth longest in Africa with some of the best fishing in Africa. With over 60 species inhabiting the Upper Zambezi, there is variety all year round. All fishing is ‘catch and release’ as part of a responsible tourism practice. Fishing guides are well versed in the flora and fauna of the surrounding areas, and going fishing offers great opportunities for wildlife and birdlife sightings. Fly fishing can be catered for on request and river usage and fishing permits are normally included in the price.

Nothing can prepare you for the experience of seeing Victoria Falls for the first time. Getting your first glimpse of the world’s largest curtain of falling water whilst being enveloped in its mist and feeling the roar of the thundering water is a magical experience. The Victoria Falls Rainforest is walkable from the City Centre however a guided tour is highly recommended as it provides unique insight into the history, unique ecosystem, the geological formation and seasonal changes of this natural world wonder. Victoria Falls is also one of the few places on earth where the natural phenomenon of a lunar rainbow takes place on a regular basis. Each full moon the Victoria Falls Rainforest re-opens in the evening for special tours to see the magical lunar rainbow.

Electric bikes (e-bikes) are available to rent at selected properties around Victoria Falls or through the Bamba Victoria Falls Team for delivery. The Bamba E-Bikes provide a great opportunity to explore the city in your own time and offer an ecofriendly independent adventure. Riding in and around Victoria Falls should only be done in daylight hours with close vigilance of your surroundings given the proximity of wildlife.

White Water Rafting

Elephant’s Walk Shopping and Artist Village

Located centrally behind Ilala Lodge, this pedestrian courtyard area contains specialty shops and studios where you can meet local craftsmen at work. The center is home to handmade products made by local community members at the Batoka Creatives studio, Ndoro Designs, art galleries, sculpture galleries, a book shop, a jewellery workshop, and Brooks Cafe. In addition, the Jafuta Heritage Centre houses a private collection of Zimbabwean artefacts, helping you explore the history and cultures of the region in a small museum-style setup. On either side of Elephants Walk there are curio markets including the Women’s Market which has beautiful jewellery, bowls and utensils.

Landela Centre

The Landela Centre is close to the railway line on the main road which comes into Victoria Falls City and traverses down to Victoria Falls Rain Forest and has an array of small boutiques, the exceptional “Victoria Falls Art Gallery” showcasing the talent of local artists, curio shops, cafes and booking agents. The area is usually a hive of activity with both shoppers and residential wildlife including warthogs, baboons and mongoose all crossing over the railway line.

The Phumula Centre

The Phumula centre on Park Way is a small shopping centre behind the Shearwater booking office. The Centre includes a well stocked supermarket, numerous service shops for cell phones, banks and a pharmacy, as well as a few clothing boutiques and a deli called the Butcher’s Daughter. Along Park Way and adjacent to the Phumula Centre is Simba’s Bakery, an artisanal patisserie reminiscent of those found on the streets of Paris, and Marula Cafe, a vibrant restaurant with a variety of tapas style dishes.

Sawanga Mall

Sawanga is the first shopping mall you will see on your way into Victoria Falls on the right hand side and is adjacent to the main road just before you reach the City Centre. A large parking lot is surrounded by a multitude of shops which range from liquor and stationary supplies, a shoe shop, banks, a supermarket and a pharmacy.

Throughout Victoria Falls there are a number of stone sculpture galleries showcasing the incredible artisanal talent and stone artworks which Zimbabwe has become famous for. Of particular note are The Stone Dynamics Gallery (https://stonedynamicsgallery.com/) which was founded in 1987 by Stuart Danks has a permanent exhibition at the Victoria Falls Hotel which has been in place for over twenty-eight years. The gallery represents already established artists and has provided opportunities for new young talent.
